The Washington Street at IL Route 21 (Milwaukee Ave) Intersection Improvements project will modernize the intersection to improve safety and traffic operations. Improvements include adding dual left-turn lanes for eastbound and westbound Washington Street and upgrading the existing traffic signals and street lighting.
The remainder of the intersection will remain generally unchanged.
Construction is anticipated to begin in September 2026
Traffic will be maintained throughout construction; however, drivers should expect temporary traffic changes, lane shifts, flaggers and possible delays as construction progresses. Additional traffic information will be shared as it becomes available.
Access to the intersection and surrounding properties will be maintained during construction. Temporary traffic configurations may be implemented to allow construction activities while keeping the area accessible. Temporary gravel or other materials may be utilized for access.
